Amaranth Moon Tarot

Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot
I haven't been doing my daily Readings for a few days, due to not being at home. I have to respect the wishes of my friend who prefers that I not even bring my Tarot cards into her home, so I left them at home. However, I have been reflecting on what, in my opinion, is the best book for helping a person to learn the Tarot.

I kid you not, the best book out of all the ones I've read is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot. I own this particular tome, and it was the FIRST book to say that although the cards have meanings "assigned" to them, that the cards should be read more by what YOU see in them at the time than anything else.

A lot of times, the "assigned" meanings of a card don't make any sense when you put them together. However, I get readings that at least I am able to understand when I just look at the imagery on the cards and let the cards "talk" to me. As silly as it sounds, letting cards "talk" to you, it really is the best way to go about reading them.

All the books I have or have read have told me to "spend time" with my cards. One book even suggested that I should carry one card around with me, per day, until I'd done so with all 78 cards, and NOT to do a reading until I'd completed the entire deck!

I've slept with a card underneath my pillow before with some very odd dream results - The Fool, reversed, seems to have triggered my love for slasher/horror flicks, because that's the type of dream I had. Weird! :) I'm always afraid of losing my cards though, as I sleep with my arms under my pillows.

Do you have any particular rituals or things you do with a new deck to attune yourself to it? Do you have any decks that no matter what, you just can't seem to read with them?

Once again a very nice site I found thru Entrecards. I plan on getting back to reading my cards. I would like to see what they say about me selling the house and etc.
